What is Imvox?
Imvox is a social voice communications platform for gamers. In short, it helps you talk to friends while gaming.
How much does it cost?
Imvox is free for most uses. Any user can create one server that can hold up to 30 people simultaneously for free. Should you need more people on your server simply contact us and we’ll bump you up. Currently there is no charge for this, however there may be in the future. Right now, we just like to have solid communication with our power users to find how we can best meet their needs.
Who runs the servers?
We do.
Where are your servers hosted? Is there one in my city?
Our servers are hosted by Amazon’s Web Services, also known as cloud computing, architecture. So far we have only deployed servers in North Virginia, but we can easily turn on servers in Northern California, Ireland and Singapore when needed. The N. Virginia servers cover the US and much of the EU with minimal latency.

Many other voice services advertise that they have servers in almost every state. This isn’t generally the case. At least one major Ventrilo provider has servers that are named for various locations, yet all of the servers actually reside in one datacenter. So that ‘Topeka, Kansas’ server you’re on just might not be in Kansas anymore, Dorothy.

How is your voice quality?
Great, and getting better all the time. We have just upgraded all our voice servers to support the SILK codec up to 24khz. The performance and network conditions automatically scale the voice quality to not effect your gaming experience. Also included are noise reduction and high quality echo cancellation.

How are you better/different than Ventrilo, Teamspeak, or Mumble?
There are several major differences.

  • We have written our own software, and also operate the servers. This allows us to innovate quickly and also provide top tech support for our product. We know the code inside and our. Your Ventrilo host has never seen the code to Ventrilo.
  • Imvox runs a real voice mixing engine on our servers. Other services just route audio, providing poor bandwidth optimization, no audio enhancing, with all the burden being placed on your computer.
  • Our software is very easy to use. You don’t have to think about setting up servers, IP addresses, domain names, ports or technical settings. Just login and go.
  • Finally, Imvox is social and helps you keep in touch with your fellow gamers with friend capabilities, instant messaging and more.
